Entrance exams explained: what each one actually measures

IELTS, TOEFL, SAT, GRE, GMAT — each exam tests something different. Know what you're being measured on before you prepare.

Entrance exams are not interchangeable. Each one measures a different slice of readiness, and programs weight them differently.

Language exams — IELTS, TOEFL, PTE — measure your ability to study in a new language. They're about communication, not intelligence, and they're trainable.

Aptitude exams — SAT, ACT — measure reasoning and readiness for undergraduate study. GRE and GMAT extend that logic to graduate and business programs, with their own formats and scoring.

The strategic question isn't 'which exam is easiest?' It's 'which exams do my target programs require, and how do they weight them?' That's a connected decision — and it deserves a connected view.
